Hello! My name is Leigh Ann Combs and I teach 5th and 6th grade science. Since childhood, I have always been deeply interested in science and nature. I grew up in Tazewell, graduated from Tazewell High School, and went on to earn a B.S. in Biology from Radford University in 2000. My experience includes working as a zookeeper at Mill Mountain Zoo in Roanoke and as a lab research assistant at Virginia Tech.
For the past three years, I have worked as a career counselor in local high schools for Southwest Virginia Community College. It was these interactions with students that inspired me to go back to school to earn a teaching certification, which I completed in 2017. Teaching science allows me to combine my love of education with my passion for working with students. I believe learning should take place in a fun, hands-on environment and I strive to spark the desire for high achievement and the pursuit of knowledge in my students. I live on a farm with my husband and three children. I enjoy gardening, hiking, playing music, and hanging out with my animals and family. I am very excited to join the team at Main Street School! |
